The Waterworks:-The Township of York didn’t provide city water service to the hospital till 1917. Sanitary sewers were even later, with the Rockcliffe sewage treatment plant opening in the late 1920’s. This cistern filtered Humber river water, used initially for everything, and later for toilets and heating.
Still visible from the path, you can see the cistern of the original water supply, the wooden pump house is long gone.
